The 2017 Toyota Tundra is a very capable full-size pickup with a nostalgic old school look. It is a smart and affordable choice and has serious off-road performance.

Pros and Features. The Tundra is a full-size pickup. It has a standard V8 engine with good power and roomy seating for its extended cab and crew cab body styles. In addition, it also has a unique off-road TRD Pro model.

Cons. It has below-average fuel economy. Its ride quality is also very stiff and it feels like a very “big” car to drive at times.

What’s New? The 2017 Toyota Tundra remains relatively unchanged. It does have some minor revisions to standard equipment.

Models. The Tundra comes in three cab styles: regular cab, extended double cab, and the CrewMax crew cab. It also has two wheelbases and three-bed lengths: 5.5-foot short bed, 6.5-foot standard bed, and 8.1-foot long bed. Its regular cab seats three while the extended and crew-cab models can seat either five or six. Depending on the body style, there are six main models: SR, SR5, TRD Pro, Limited, Platinum, and a 1794 Edition.

The SR comes in regular and extended cab body styles only. It comes with 18-inch wheels, daytime running lights, cruise control, and other safety and tech features.

Moving along to the SR5, it is available in extended and crew cab body styles. It has fog lights, exterior chrome trim, a traffic information and navigation app, and other tech features. The Toyota Tundra SR5 also has several upgrade packages which add bucket seats, a 5.7-liter V8 engine, and more safety and convenience upgrades.

The TRD Pro has the SR5 Upgrade package plus 18-inch alloy wheels, off-road suspension and tires, Bilstein shock absorbers, and other unique styling elements. It also has an upgraded touchscreen and a navigation system.

The Limited comes in extended and crew cabs only. It works with the Upgrade SR5 as a base and adds more equipment like automatic headlights, leather upholstery, a navigation system, and 20-inch alloy wheels. The Limited Premium package has a Safety & Convenience package and an optional sunroof.

The top of the line Platinum only comes in crew cab body style. It comes with the Safety & Convenience package of the Limited Premium and adds other distinctive styling elements. The 1794 Edition only differs from the Platinum with its exclusive exterior and interior styling elements.

Verdict. While it has bold styling and a beautiful interior, the Toyota Tundra 2017 just can’t compare to some of its competitors. But it is still a solid and dependable choice overall.
