First Look: Subaru Viziv-7 SUV Concept

Bigger, cleaner, better. Here’s what we know about the Subaru Viziv-7 SUV Concept that made its world debut at the Los Angeles auto show.

The Viziv-7 Subaru SUV, the name just rolls off your tongue, right? Subaru says the name is derived from “Vision for Innovation.”

Its latest concept shows the size direction of an all-new full-size SUV that will eventually go on sale in 2018. It measures 204.7 x 79.9 x 72.0 inches (73.2 if you include the roof rail). Its wheelbase is 117.7 inches long and tires are sized 265/55 R21.

“The concept expresses our core brand values, safety, dependability, capability for outdoor activities and a forward looking attitude,” said Takeshi Tachimori, corporate executive veep, Fuji Heavy Industries, LTD in a statement.

“We know customers in this segment want a full-sized vehicle and the next three-row from Subaru will be the biggest Subaru vehicle ever.”

In photos, the beefy concept looks pretty cool. It resembles a slightly more modern Subaru Outback with an updated Forester light kit, but it still much larger than a Tribeca. Overall, it’s a much cleaner, four-door version of the Viziv Future Concept that made a bow at the 2015 Tokyo auto show.

Viziv-7 has an aggressive stance and a hexagonal black grille with a Subaru badge placed high near the top. It’s even with the boomerang shaped LED headlights that surrounds six gem lights on each side of the SUV. Below them, fog lights are deeply inset like big diamond rings.

The hood is short but thick while the side mirrors are small, elegant, and well proportioned. Short, thin turquoise blue light strips above each wheel well work well with the sandy, metallic matte paint. Around back, the rear light kit extends across the concept’s middle and a wide visor extends across the top of a big tinted window.

Judging from the size, dimensions, and roof rack it looks like a perfect family hauler. We expect it will sell well when the final version goes on sale in early 2018.
