2017 Jeep Wrangler Loyal To Its Favorite Wrangler Design But Misses The Mark In Safety Features According To Experts

The 2017 Jeep Wrangler offers a good throwback from the past because of its design and also has adequate modern features and amenities.

The 2017 Jeep Wrangler is considered one of the best off-roading vehicles for the year especially because it stayed loyal to the age-old Wrangler design. It is reported to also come with adequate modern features and amenities. However, not all vehicles are created perfect as this Wrangler also has its own share of misgivings.

According to The Car Connection, the all-time favorite Jeep Wrangler’s 2017 edition only garnered 4.8 points out of a possible 10. It is considered mediocre as Jeep vehicles are rarely rated this way by experts and car enthusiasts. It only got 7 points as its highest score in two categories such as Styling and Features. All else did not do so well, with special mention to Safety for only being rated 2 points.

True, there is absolutely nothing that looks like the Wrangler. The 2017 Jeep Wrangler is not an exception as it still sports its unique boxy shape. However, this loyalty to the long-time Wrangler design is not so much welcomed by enthusiasts anymore. The door hinges are still exposed and are attached to flat sheet metal that pointedly avoids a mass-market appeal.

The 2017 Jeep Wrangler is also powered by Chrysler’s 3.6-liter V-6 mated with six-speed manual or an optional Mercedes-Benz 5-speed automatic transmission. The V-6 automatic provides relatively smooth drive which can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in 7.7secs.

As a mass appeal is not so much of a strength for this off-roading vehicle, the 2017 Jeep Wrangler’s body-on-frame chassis and solid front and rear axles constantly delivers, making it is one of the most capable off-road vehicles in the market. It has lots of ground clearance with protective skid plates which contribute to a good off-roading experience.

As the 2017 Jeep Wrangler is considered to provide an impressive off-roading experience, first-time users are known to complain about the Wrangler being noisy, floppy, and jiggly. The Wrangler’s dull recirculating-ball steering is also something less desired. Its interior is also considered easy to clean and maintain but lets in a good deal of noise.

As added by Auto Blog, the 2017 Jeep Wrangler also has some safety weak parts. The NHTSA only gave the Wrangler three stars for rollover resistance. The IIHS, on the other hand, gave the two-door Wrangler a Poor in a side impact. Other aspects on IIHS relatively did better as it got Good for moderate frontal impact.

At the end of the day, the 2017 Jeep Wrangler still delivers as one of the ultimate off-roading vehicles available. However, its loyalty to the design may somehow be responsible for it lagging behind in terms of other technologies that other competitors offer.
